Abstract:

Cities are more and more places where it is possible to gain job opportunities and enjoy culture and sociality, but they can become places of poverty and exclusion. To govern cities looking for the common good, it is possible to implement urban dashboards, able to collect, process, and visualize data and indicators to support political decisions and good local administration. The present paper introduces the concept of common good and wellbeing in cities and describe a case study about the implementation of two urban dashboards in the Municipality of Genoa: Dynamic Control is a platform to support benchmarking at the national level and long term pursuing of the better quality of life for citizens; Seagul is a GIS also using AI, able to investigate about the quality of life in neighborhoods and to link the specific needs of citizens living in a certain neighborhood with the delivered services. Conclusions show that urban dashboards can support effective management and governance of local public administration only if aligned with the pursuing of public value and common good.
