Abstract:

Businesses play a crucial role in protecting and enhancing biodiversity. Numerous organizations have understood the implications of the decline of natural ecosystems and have implemented strategies to conserve and regenerate severely compromised species and habitats. Collaboration with other organizations, such as NGOs, local communities, and universities, is crucial in many of the solutions adopted by businesses. Collaborative approaches play a crucial role in biodiversity management, albeit in different forms in terms of the roles played by different stakeholders and the intensity of participation in the design and implementation of solutions.

This study investigates the varying levels of stakeholder collaboration in the biodiversity strategies of ten large Italian companies. Four levels of participation emerged based on the types of biodiversity strategies implemented by the selected case studies. The results demonstrate how conservation, restoration, recovery, and regeneration strategies require varying levels of collaboration with stakeholders.
