Abstract:

This paper outlines a theoretical framework about the emerging business model of the Logistics Service Providers and the reframing of the supply chains of their customers.
The framework considers structural drivers such as mass customisation and globalization as well as the ICT as an important enabling factor. The supply chains are reshaping as "value constellation" according a network model, and the players in the network interact as partners according to a cooperative model.
The value chains of the Logistics Service Providers and the ones of their customers complement each others, and the Logistics Service Providers act as integrators of customers supply chains.
The relations between the Logistics Service Providers and their customers as well as the competitive advantage and the value creation of the supply chains are more and more depending on the use value of the logistic services provided.
In this issue of “Impresa Progetto” a paper by Sonia Ruggiero is presented (Caratteri e tendenze evolutive del business model dei Logistics Service Provider) with empirical evidence supporting the theoretical framework.
